Get really close to a painting. Then you discover special, unexpected things. Like how the stickers on the back of a painting tell a story. Watch the video and find out what story the back of Daubigny’s Garden tells. https://t.co/uG81VVxrdV

This painting is one of the few by Van Gogh that people can see up close at the moment, as the museums reopened! The self-portrait is currently on loan to the Centro Culturale San Gaetano. The Van Gogh Museum will hopefully be open again when the painting returns. We can’t wait! https://t.co/MxJhDy1SA3

Do you think that Lazarus resembles Vincent van Gogh? In this painting, Vincent focused on human suffering; he left out the figure of Christ from the story. Van Gogh probably identified with Lazarus in the tomb, which would explain why he gave the figure a red beard. https://t.co/aN6ln2uL83

This painting shows Van Gogh’s Yellow House. With the steam train down the road and the people on the street, it must have been a noisy part of town. Can you imagine the urban sounds that would have surrounded Vincent while he was painting? https://t.co/ETVUCtVHds

What colour wall would you place The Potato Eaters on? The colour of the wall on which a painting is presented can have a dramatic effect on the artwork’s colours. The background can enhance or illuminate the work, or even make it fade into its surroundings. https://t.co/TVAW4IczPE

When Van Gogh travelled to Les Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer. He had never seen the Mediterranean Sea before. He had to travel for hours in a coach to get there. But after the trip, he was greeted by the Mediterranean. Can you feel the fresh sea air when you look at this painting? https://t.co/9PIehZhj6X

When Vincent was starting out as an artist, he often copied pictures of works by other artists. It’s easy to see that Vincent still lacked experience when he made this drawing. See how the sower has thrown his seeds backwards? In Millet’s painting, those were not seeds, but birds https://t.co/dTVAyBfesX

Look deep into Camille’s eyes! 👁️ By looking at his eyes, can you see which of these two versions Van Gogh painted with the model present, and which he painted afterwards in his studio? Tip: which eyes sparkle more? 🌻 Portrait of Camille Roulin @philamuseum & Van Gogh Museum https://t.co/8MZqBbZeTw

The paint on this work isn’t what you’d typically expect from Vincent. He experimented in this painting, trying out diluted oil paint. Do you think that it was a successful experiment? 🌻 Vincent van Gogh, Boulevard de Clichy (1887) https://t.co/5heIN0dIda

In 1884, Van Gogh painted the Reformed Church in Nuenen, where his father was a minister. Vincent had moved back in with his parents for a while, and painted the church to cheer his mother up. She was confined to bed after breaking her leg. https://t.co/DtJu2X4bB8

‘Old chap, I’ve had so much pleasure drawing fishermen’s heads’, wrote Vincent to his brother, ‘with that sou’wester, which had fish scales still stuck to it when I got it’. https://t.co/eYiz4PhqOl

Take the time to properly look at Almond Blossom. Which three words come to mind? Perhaps a feeling? Does a particular detail catch your eye? Something about the colour, or the flowers? https://t.co/bYeZL8UBUv
