Meet Nicole Belle Isle, the engineer working to bring a new urine-diverting dry toilet to Glen Aulin! Because urine hampers composting, this system separates solids into a separate chamber. It might not be glamorous, but it's nifty (& important!) stuff. https://t.co/rg6o3Ttv9l

How do you balance maintaining wilderness access with protecting clean water in an age of increasing visitation?
With the composting toilet at Glen Aulin no longer composting well (waste must be carried out by mules), one engineer is working on a solution... [cont'd tomorrow!] https://t.co/HJZqh3mKvk

For millions of years, Tenaya Creek has flowed over solid granite, carving a path later followed by ancient glaciers. With each spring the creek flows anew with snowmelt—dwarfed by the scale of the vast canyon it has made.

Where have you witnessed the power of endurance? https://t.co/T2gMXr9T6K

Great shot from last week's snowstorm! Did you know Yosemite's bears stay active as long as food resources are available (no matter what the weather is)? For this reason, proper storage of human food is especially important in fall and winter! #KeepBearsWild https://t.co/u7UcnDN3rx

Where does a tree get its water?

This question lies at the heart of a new study seeking to understand what's behind the death of several sequoias in the Mariposa Grove at least 30 at @SequoiaKingsNPS. Get the whole story: https://t.co/s3fUgpDS5l https://t.co/wtPgfqBmqo

Badger Pass Ski Area concessions, including downhill and Nordic rentals, will be closed this winter. Badger Pass Rd will be open from approximately mid-Dec through March; visitors with their own skis/snowshoes can drive to Badger Pass and go cross-country skiing or snowshoeing. https://t.co/sVLZWVICBf

"Where should we watch the sunset?"

The trick answer is: If you're surrounded by 3,000-foot granite cliffs on all sides...don't even try! Instead, turn your eyes east to catch the last rays as they illuminate the cliffs. Enjoy yesterday's light show over the snow-covered valley. https://t.co/F4Bl1QhykE

A winter storm warning is in effect through Sunday, with snow arriving as early as tonight.
❄️
Hikers: Check your packs for extra food, water, and warm and waterproof layers! Remember, even an inch of snow can hide the trail; be prepared to route-find. #Plan #Prepare #BeAware https://t.co/S2SLjywjI0

Waterfalls fill and empty. Bears sleep and wake. Songbirds arrive and depart. Generations of pollinators flourish and pass as flowers bloom and fade. This steady metronome of life provides a rhythm even in times of uncertainty. What rhythms help you keep time in your life? https://t.co/6nAUp0ivou

"We simply need that wild country available to us, even if we never do more than drive to its edge and look in. For it can be a means of reassuring ourselves of our sanity as creatures, a part of the geography of hope."
