Fun Fact

The 2012 election broke records with 31.7 million political tweets. Election Day was by far the most tweeted about event in US political history.

I get emails from colleagues cc'd to a stranger saying that the colleague suggests I meet with the stranger. Stranger then immediately email directly "As X said, we should meet -- when are you free?". Everyone okay with this as a norm? I don't love it.

1/2 | Cancer Journal When people ask me how I am doing, I say that I am fine. My wife says that's crazy, and she's right. But this is what I feel. The life I (still) have is good. And I have known many people who have experienced far more pain or grief than I have.

Many people become addicted to or overdose on benzodiazepines either alone or in combination with opioids and alcohol. Yet for reasons I don't understand there is almost no scientific or policy attention directed at these drugs. https://t.co/HskQ9tlIK9

As socializing slowly starts up again after a year of #COVID19, how can we approach drinking #alcohol more safely? @StanfordPSY's @KeithNHumphreys recommends drinking one beverage an hour & avoiding consumption two nights in a row. https://t.co/05ziDBvG8N

Wanted to convert all our photos of the kids to jpg images but my wife is incredibly picky and insisted on a different format. Just goes to show that choosy mothers choose gif

Another excellent Easy Rawlins mystery. One of many ways Walter Mosley is a worthy successor to Raymond Chandler: His plots are so complicated you can't follow them but you don't care because the language and characterizations are so compelling. https://t.co/2p1WY2TU6a

Fathering advice from Our Friends in the North: "Your son doesn't want to come in second at being you, he wants to come in first at being himself."

As a teenager, the actor Hugh Lurie said to his mother when his father took them onto a lake in a rowboat "Are you sure he can handle it?". His dad did not respond to the crack.
Hugh found out years later that his dad was an Olympic gold medalist in rowing. Happy Father's Day! https://t.co/5BeQokGwZ8

Quoted @Julian

You’re on your deathbed surrounded by family. You’re old and you’ve lived a wonderful life. Your grandson hands you a smartphone and asks you to Tweet a final time. What do you tweet? 😂

"I knew if stayed around long enough, something like this would happen". https://t.co/lmTJuwmO5Q

The man that has always been there for me, from sitting up in my hospital room for months on end, to visiting me overseas, on the darkest of days and most joyful of occasions...everything good that I am and aspire to be is because of him. I love you dad, happy #FathersDay2021 https://t.co/ORKuhLyVLZ

Before you get too outraged that vaccine makers profited from stopping a global pandemic, consider that the tobacco industry causes more than 7 million deaths each year and has almost one *trillion* dollars in annual revenue year in, year out.

I still quote Ed Diener's advice to my mentees, 30+ years since he taught me research design. Aristotle said to be a great scholar you first have to be a great person, very true in Ed's case. R.I.P. https://t.co/tEFgwJgSay
