WATCH Kristen Clarke's opening remarks: “I carry the words of Justice Thurgood Marshall as my guide: ‘Where you see wrong or inequality or injustice, speak out, because this is your country. This is your democracy. Make it. Protect it. Pass it on.’ I’ve tried to do just that." https://t.co/3aRL8ZvSAe
"[An officer who] intended to use his Taser rather than his gun . . . . was objectively unreasonable and violated clearly established law, namely [the] prohibition against shooting suspects who pose no significant threat,” Henry v. Purnell, 652 F.3d 524 (4th Cir. 2011) (en banc).
A U.S. Army officer filed a federal civil lawsuit against police officers who pepper-sprayed and assaulted him. Lt. Caron Nazario, of Latinx and African American descent, alleges that his constitutional rights were violated and race played a role. https://t.co/YbqLAfa2w4
If you’ve ever asked me what I’m most afraid of, you know that my answer is being pulled over in a small town at night. This crap is why ⬇️ Lt. Nazario should get justice in court but until policing is reformed from bottom up it’s little solace for this institutionalized terror https://t.co/Vsm3bFprfI
Voters are more than just numbers on a @Nate_Cohn spreadsheet. They are people. Implying 12 hour lines are not that bad because voters will find a way to make up for lost wages or they’ll vote after they faint is cruel and racist. Turnout would be even higher if not for barriers.
Just as elections have consequences, so do the actions of those who are elected. Unfortunately, the removal of the @MLB All Star game from GA is likely the 1st of many dominoes to fall, until the unnecessary barriers put in place to restrict access to the ballot box are removed.
If you’re boycotting the MLB because its leadership saw, understood, and took action against voter suppression, good! Excited to NOT see you at the stadium next time. 😎🍿 https://t.co/gBFXIhyVJ6
CRITICAL INCIDENT: USCP is responding to the North Barricade vehicle access point along Independence Avenue for reports someone rammed a vehicle into two USCP officers. A suspect is in custody. Both officers are injured. All three have been transported to the hospital. https://t.co/4TXIdulJc6
My child just pointed to an em dash in her book and said “what is that?” and HERE WE GO I’ve been preparing for this moment my whole life
I remember asking a teacher what an em dash was when I was a kid and the dispassionate response I got stifled my writing creativity for years to come https://t.co/fKMLRaxB3e
Tenth Circuit becomes the latest circuit to embrace a robust view of sentence reduction authority under 35... https://t.co/2ADPs7dtQJ
The 2nd, 4th, 6th, 7th, and now 10th Circuits have all embraced the idea that the Guidelines criteria for compassionate release is not binding. So judges can now use it as a second look at those who’ve been overly sentenced. #SecondChances https://t.co/mjrp4x6Tue
1. You've probably seen this picture of Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp and his gaggle of white men signing the state's voter suppression law -- the new, new Jim Crow. But there's a shocking angle to this story that you haven't heard. Sit down for this one... https://t.co/edHPmyeoiu
Proud to bring this lawsuit on behalf of @NewGAProject @BlackVotersMtr & @RiseFreeOrg with @marceelias and the rest of our team. Ready to fight for democracy and do right by Georgia voters! https://t.co/T8uIv7VZar
