Fun Fact

10 tweets per second mention Starbucks.

I know Manchin has his ~reasons~, and I know the overall amount of money for unemployed people is about the same, but one Senator being able to reduce the additional unemployment benefits from $400 to $300 feels a little...off. One Dem overruling 49 other Senators and 219 Reps.

Updated story: basically Joe Manchin has not decided how long he would like unemployed Americans to get help for w/@igorbobic and @ArthurDelaneyHP https://t.co/ok0Wx220OX

I’ll still do some reporting at Daily Beast, and I’ll still get to the Capitol here and there — I’ll never quit you, House of Representatives — but I’m gonna do my best to be one of those editors that reporters actually like and respect, even if they always mess with your lede.

So, some professional news: Next week is my last at HuffPost. I’m joining the incredible team at The Daily Beast as their politics editor. I’ll have more to say about HuffPost and my fantastic colleagues — best job I ever had — but for now, I’ll leave it at this: Read HuffPost.

Meanwhile, there are plenty of unemployed people who didn’t get a stimulus check because they made too much money in 2018 or 2019. Obviously, what you made in 2018 has a lot to do with how much money you have now if you’ve been unemployed since March. Extremely Congress.

Unemployed people have really gotten a crash course this year in the whims of lawmaking. $600 extra a week, to $0, to $300, to the hope of $400, back to $300, but with a lower tax bill. Mix in plenty of potential lapses and delays because this system is a mess.

John Kennedy: *supports the standard GOP position, but says it while mentioning “a six-pack of beer” and “a swamp possum with the mumps”* Capitol Hill reporters: This is GOLD!!!

Rand Paul thinks the ~3 million Kentuckians who would receive checks from the American Rescue Plan (including tens of thousands who find themselves on unemployment) are all deadbeats. https://t.co/fBhs5GB4v8

The best way I can describe Sen. John Kennedy is he’s that golfer who always says “sounded good” as he shanks it into the woods.

President Biden’s $2,000,000,000,000 coronavirus bill is an orgy of pork. Calling it a coronavirus bill is like calling Harvey Weinstein a feminist. We can do better. https://t.co/pm20fIyMse

This guy’s whole schtick is taking the Republican position on everything with zero independent analysis, but doing it in quotable ways. So quirky! https://t.co/V0T1SsS4Gr

Warnock/Ossoff wins = approximately $1.3 trillion bigger stimulus.

Or more. The $618 billion outline came from moderate end of the Senate GOP. McConnell never exactly endorsed it and it’s far from clear anything like that would come up if he were in charge. https://t.co/Rr9Rxdxdmq

Per Hill pool, Sean Spicer showed up at the Capitol with a bouquet of balloons. He says he's only there to wish Sen. James Lankford a happy birthday and is going home afterward.

Former Illinois Gov Bruce Rauner wrote a $250,000 check to Florida Gov Ron DeSantis after the gated Florida Keys complex where Rauner now lives got vaccines before the rest of Florida. Miami Herald —> https://t.co/Y74VdO0t7H

“Since DeSantis started using the state’s vaccine initiative to steer special pop-up vaccinations to select communities, his political committee has raised $2.7 million in the month of February alone, more than any other month since he first ran for governor in 2018” https://t.co/HhHP4myeFq
