It didn't take me long to realize I had to PRE-READ all Seuss stories, even ones I *thought* I knew well, before actually sharing them with my kids.

  • @ElieNYC A book I read recently on the internment of Japanese-Americans from Bainbridge Island, WA reproduced a shockingly racist wartime anti-Japanese Seuss cartoon.

  • @ElieNYC Elie, please educate me. I've read the stories about this but I've not read the books. Also, I've gotta say one of the most racist characters ive ever seen was JarJar Binks. That whole movie ought to be wiped from the planet. Thanks in advance.

  • @ElieNYC When my oldest was a toddler I read him a Seuss ABC board book I received. After pages AAA and BBB, I scanned ahead to see if K would be handled differently but nah so I stopped. Then I researched him a bit later and stumbled on his especially racist political cartoons.😳

  • @ElieNYC Did not read Dr. Seuss. Took a look at some of the images. I am surprised it took so long. Why? Even Looney Tunes stopped showing certain cartoons that were nearly identical in nature to the Dr. Seuss images. Their portrayal of BIPOCs *used to be* absolutely horrendous.

  • @ElieNYC I had a hard time reading any of them after realizing some were so horribly racist. I tried to hide the books we had and donated some to the library but just found a few more tucked away. They should include sidebars and discussion points for parents, as should most Disney films.
